Ghost AND DEMONS
According to the definition in the Webster Dictionary, Ghost means phantom, or the spirit of one who is dead.
Ghost is said to be a legend and myth; yet, there are many documentations on apparitions seen by both religious and none-religious people over the centuries. There have been known cases where families would experience horrors, strange phenomena such as night noises, shakings, shadows, lights, sightings, or an un-naturally cold atmosphere in the house.
Biblical evidences show, there is no spirit of the dead roaming about the earth in spirit form, nor can the spirit of dead folks terrorize people who are alive.
Hebrews 9:27 says, “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:”
Job 7:9 -10, “As the cloud disappears and vanishes away, so he who goes down to the grave does not come up. He shall never return to his house, nor shall his place (home) know him anymore.”
The New Age term for these spirits are "positive energies" or "good spirits" and if the encounters are severe they call it a "negative energies" or "dark energies" or "bad spirits". In extreme cases they would say its a "dark entity" or a "demon."
These energies are thought to be the spirits of the dead who are trapped in limbo, not having a crossover into the light. These spirits are said to linger in their past house or property or even attached themselves to a family member. This is called Haunted.
These spirits lurking around properties are in fact Demons taking up personalities of a dead person, but is NOT the actual dead person themselves.
Many people believe that if the ghosts are harmless then it is a good spirit, but if it is extremely terrifying then it is a bad spirit.
Though haunting is real, there is NO limbo as the New Agers are teaching and there is NO purgatory as the Catholic Church teaches. The soul of a person goes strait to heaven or hell after death, no coming back. The souls of the dead are set within the confine of eternity and their judgement, Hebrews 9:27; they are constrained by the laws of their destination, (Luke 16:20-31).
One of the most profound scripture on this is found in:
Job 7:9, “As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.
Job 7:10, “He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.”
Also in Ecclesiastes 9:5, “For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. Vs. Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.”
King Saul and the Ghost of Samuel the Prophet
1Samuel 28 holds a record of such activity as in the case of King Saul and the Witch of En’-dor. King Saul disguised himself and asked the witch for Samuel to be brought up through her sorcery.
She espected a demon to come up as usual, but God allowed the real Samuel to come up.
She did not recognize the king, but when the woman saw it was the original spirit of Samuel, she cried out in a loud voice and recognized the visitor was Saul the king.
Why didn't she recognize it was King Saul before Samuel came up? After all, by the mention of the name Samuel it should have given her an idea who the seeker is. It was because she knew it was suppose to be a Demon spirit and not the real person.
God allowed her to encounter the real spirit of a dead person, the man of God himself, Samuel. God allowed this because Samuel is a prophet of the true and living God and only a prophet of God could bring forth the true Word of God to Saul. God needed to rebuke King Saul and tell him what his real condition is. If God had allowed a Demon come up, it would have lied to king Saul.
During the time of 1st Century, belief in ghost was a part of the doctrine of their spiritual life. It was said that Scribe and Pharisees believed in the supernatural such as ghost, angels and devils and spirits while the Sadducees did not believe in such. That argument was manifested before the king before whom Paul was brought forth for trial. After giving his speech on his belief the Sadducees began an uproar. Acts 23:7, “And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.”
Vs.8, “For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.”
When Jesus came to the disciples walking on the water, they thought it was a ghost. Why would they think it was a ghost if they did not believe in such?
Even if they did not believe in ghost, the very encounter with this ghostly being walking on the water would turn them into a believer. Jesus said, Matthew 14:27, “it is I, do not be afraid”, Mark 6:45-52.
