Should Christian Keep Old Testament Feast & Holidays
In many churches and religious groups, specifically those who closely follows the Jewish cultures and traditions, it is likely to find the custom of the Jewish feast and Holidays being practice there. The Jewish feast and holidays such as the New moons, Sabbaths, Feast of Tabernacle, etc were all valid for the Old Testament and served as shadows and types of Christ and His redemptive work that was to be accomplished in the New Testament.
A shadow and type in scriptures is a sketch of a well-defined future plan; features of redemption that would be carried out by the Messiah Himself. It is a direct replica of the real thing, holding all the redemptive effects but is not the real thing itself. In Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things,”
E.g, Aaron and his priestly service as high priest is a rough figure of Christ the Great High Priest. Also, Day of Atonement in Israel (Lev 16) was a true picture of the atoning work of Christ on the cross.
Conclusion; All of shadows and type were done away with when Jesus Christ came to earth and we are therefore not bound to these laws anymore. The Jewish Feasts were only there for a shadow and type of the coming Messiah. This messiah has come and we therefore have no need of the shadows. This is why Paul said in Colossians 2:16, “Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the Sabbath days: Vs.17 Which are a shadow of things to come;”
There is no need for Feast of Tabernacle, for we are the tabernacle of Christ now, No need for Sabbaths, for our rest right now is in Christ, not in a physical day and no need for any of the other Feast for the substance himself is there while the shadow of that substance has past.
